Just ordered CP from Diamondback

Just placed my first order for CP from Diamondback Drugs. $45 shipped to my door for 30g of chloroquine phosphate powder. My vet was willing to write me a prescription for it and provided me with a couple of refills too.

I'm going to be getting a lawnmower blenny and a royal gramma hopefully in the next week or so. Looking forward to giving CP a try. I've done copper in the past with success, but I like the simplicity of CP and what appears to be the more gentle nature of it.

I also ordered a Hanna Copper checker to have on hand for when I get my next wrasse

I just recently got my hands on CP as well. You will love it.

Per @Humblefish's recommendations, in fear of Bio degradation I have been using it in a sterile tank with zero biofilter keeping fish in the CP for 10 days and transferring to a clean sterile tank. It definitely works well I had fish they were covered in velvet that went in did fine throughout the treatment. You can also use prime to control ammonia. During the CP treatment.

Also you'll love the Hanna checker when using copper I see no lethargic behavior out of any wrasse during copper.

I'm pretty excited to have this as a method. I didn't realize the protocol was updated from the 30 day period. I'm glad you posted

It hasn't officially changed yet. @HotRocks took daily water samples, which I will be forwarding on to @Christoph. If the CP level remained stable for the entire 10 days, then it would be best to treat as Kyle outlines above until we can do more extensive testing to determine how much CP degrades when dosed into a QT with a working biofilter.

Oh that's interesting! The CP gets used/depleted/whathaveyou up by the biofilter? If that's true, would the 30 day treatment in a non-sterile tank be any more effective than just a 10 day treatment in a non-sterile tank? Or is the thought that it degrades over the entire 30 days and even though it is reduced you still need it?

I don't think we have enough data back yet to be sure either way. It's a pretty safe bet if you use a tank without a biofilter and only keep them in that tank dosed with CP for 10 days, then transfer them to a second clean sterile QT your treatment will be successful.

10 days is what I use for both copper and CP.
I have the tank dosed to 40mg/g when the fish goes in and add another 20mg/g on day 5. Out they go on day 10. It has worked for me so far.

Yup. I haven't had any issues with internal parasites or flukes lately which I find odd. Until recently I might have recommended holding off on the GC but some new nastiness in the supply chain makes me think it is wise to use a metro based ABX in the water on all new fish.

My CP got delayed. Expired prescription... ugh! Vet is calling in to update it.

My lawnmower blenny sadly didn’t make it. Not sure what happened. No obvious signs of disease of any kind. The gramma and blenny both ate today so that’s a good thing.

The gramma just flashed twice and now I’m worried... While I wait for the CP is there any reason not to do the GC now?

CP will be here today

I have seen the gramma flash a few times since I finished the GC treatment and that has me concerned. They're both eating well, so I'm going to leave it be for now and run the CP today. I'll probably do a second round of GC after.

We had a batch of fish through CP that did not do its job, we suspect either light or metabolizing from the fish themselves use 80mpg per gallon and you should be fine. Testing is still being done. On smaller batches of fish it worked just fine so we suspect the fish are metabolizing it. I would also personally treat for 14 full days just in case as well, and leave the lights on for a shorter duration than you normally would throughout treatment until we can confirm what the culprit is.

Well that was almost bad.... Never math and think at the same time

I mixed up 8 grams instead of 0.8 grams of CP and was about to dump it in when I realized what I did. Well there goes 10 doses down the drain

At least I didn't kill my fish with it.

I’ve been having success with 7-14 days, but I transfer my fish several times. I don’t like to take chances. Once the meds are therapeutic...I never treat longer than 2 weeks max. Most of the time it’s more like 7 days. Well, for ICH and Velvet that is. I just don’t see the need to go any longer than that. IMO... once the meds are therapeutic, they’re both off the fish in 7 days.
