Kalk reactors/stirrers anyone using them?

From talking to randy I can't recommend a stirrer. He seems to believe that they aren't any more effective than just having kalk in my ato

I have a Reef Octo stirrer. They are the bomb. I am just starting to need alk on my new tank so I am dragging it out to set up again. Had to order another doser because I don't have enough heads. I really like the control that you can get with the doser stirrer combination.

I have had a avast marine k2 kalk stirrer for the longest time and to be honest I like using kalk in just my ato now. Much easier to measure the right amount out every time.

I use a Deltec stirrer coupled to a doser. Works great and so simple.

I would think it would be much easier to control than just letting the ato run wild. Don’t you see different top off levels based on the time of year or is that irrelevant? Don’t you burn up ato pumps?

I have a starting tank, month 3, and I only have abiotic usage of Alk and Ca2+. So I only need to dose 1.5 L of kalk per day in a 200 gal tank. I could find the right dilution in my ATO but I found it easier to just use saturated kalkwasser and instead regulate the amount with a pump and stirrer.

Plus with a stirrer, you ATO does not get a big mess which needs cleaning (a stirrer is easier to clean than a 20 gal ATO tank). A stirrer also saves your ATO pump which degrades fast when pumping kalk. And last, the kalk in a stirrer is not exposed to air and keeps it’s potency. I only add a few spoons of kalk every 2-3 weeks and my ALk is stable.
