Ok guys I need some help, I bought a Deltec KM 500S kalkstirrer and the Tunzie Osmolator and Im using this for a top off, I will run the ro/di water into the input side of the kalkstirrer unit, the outlet side for top off into my sump Im a little confused on. What opens and closes the line going into your sump for the top off? I know the Tunzie will monitor the water level in the sump with floats and the electronic eye. Just dont know about the make up

When the electronic eye kicks on, to top off, your water will feed into the reactor, forcing the effluent out and into your sump.

so the tunzie comes with some kind of selonoid valve wich opens on low water alowing the water to flo thru the reactor.

Yes, Basically the reactor is just treating the RODI top off water with the Kalk. The ATO system controls everything and only kicks in to replenish water. Your kalk delivery will depend on evaporation.

Keep in mind that you will want to monitor the PH and kill the ATO if the PH gets too high. This will prevent you from dosing too much kalk as the Kalk PH is really high compared to the tank water...

I picked up a ph monitor also, I will install that also to turn the co2 on and off. Right now I have a Pro Cal dual chamber calcium reactor which can handle my tank's alk & calc needs but I also have a liter Meter dosing 120ml of two part for an extra kick. Will I have to turm the liter meter down once the Kalk is operational?

I would disconnect the litermeter and just run the Ca Reactor and Kalk reactor. That is how I have my system set up. You will have to mix your effluent, in the Kalk reactor to keep it in suspension. You don't want to dose, just after mixing though, or you will end up with Kalk particulate settling in the tank. I have my top off set to run 2times a day. 630 am and 430 pm. I mix at noon and 930 PM.

I would like to just drop down the amount Im dosing,I believe B-Ionic is like steriods to my corals, I will drop it to half the amount Im currently dosing.

The 2 part will most likely not be needed anymore, if you think 2 part is steroids just wait until the kalkwasser gets into the tank!

I was always nervous about Kalkwasser, moslty becuase I didnt know much about it. There will be a learning curve that I have to work through. Just dont want any issues with the strat up with the Kalk

Read the sticky on the top of the Reef Chemistry section, its full of information.

When I run a kalk reactor, I use it as my top off. I start with very little kalk in the reactor and focus on getting the top off timing right so it matches what is evaporating. Once that is set, you can add kalk to the reactor slowly until you get the potency that you need. Remember that water can only absorb 2 tablespoons of kalk per gallon at a maximum.

Actually it is 2 teaspoons per gallon maximum, not tablespoons.

Can you explain top off timing. I run an avast k1 Kalk stirrer I just have it to stir 20 min every couple hours and set to set to dose when my auto top off float switch kicks on.

thats how I would have it set, when aquariumn water level drops your top off will kick on your top off, adding Kalk water to your system. Its on you to mix the Kalk accurately to what your system needs I would think.

What I meant was geared towards somebody not using a float switch but a dosing pump as top off. In terms of timing, I was referring to getting the dosing timed correctly, on/off, to match the evaporation of your tank. I use a AquaLifter pump on an Apex using the OSC command. I think mine was setup to dosing for 20 seconds every 9 minutes or something.

You can do it like that, but the more potent your lime water is the higher your Alk will spike when toping off. Personally, when I get my PM reactor connected again (doing fish only right now) I will do the same thing, and use the Tunze Ozmolator to make up the difference in top off if needed.

I am adding a PH monitor to my calcium reactor also, this will monitor my ph, when ph starts to rise the controller will shut down my co2 and vise verse

You would want the CO2 to keep running to lower the pH that the Kalk might raise above 8.5. I add kalk to my reactor every 3-4 weeks and it never gets above 8.5.

Yes but I thought the Kalk addition would raise my PH to a point were it should be cut off

Bill.....no worries. I got you covered. Get all the equipment in and give me a call. I'll shoot over and have you up and running in no time.

Enjoy your turkey today.......
