I would not do that even to a damsel. I am doing the fishless cycle . I am on day 12 with a piece of talopia about the size of a quarter. My ammonia is at 2 and nitrite at .25 I know Dr. Tim's or bacteria 7 would help but I am in no hurry so I am going to let nature take its course.

Looks like you got the cycling going in the right direction. Yes tanks can and have been cycled with live fish, but in this day and age and all we know about the hobby, it's cruel and in no way needed anymore.

As far as the kalkwasser is concerned, not needed until you start to see coralline growing, or you add coral.

I personally never liked kalk. Used it in my ATO, and evaporation rates changed day to day, so I could never get a consistent dosing amount. Just started with 2 part, and have been using it ever since.

I don't mean to steer you away from KALK, it works well, and as an added bonus it raises PH. If your going to drip it into the system, as opposed to using your ATO, it can be measured for use like 2 part can be. Many people use Kalk and 2 part in conjunction with each other to get the added benefit of raising PH, while the 2 part maintains the levels.

I just never liked having to mess with it(just another thing to measure out and add). 2 part is just plain and simple.

Also, IO is a simple salt mix. That’s fine too!
I use the Reef Crystals and have done this for over ten years I believe.

I’ve also found Reef Crystals to be cheaper than the IO too. You can literally get a 5G bucket for $30 and if you look and shop very smart, you can get that price down to $24.

I would love to know where you get your salt. Instant ocean has always been cheaper than reef crystals and i haven’t seen prices like you quoted for along time.

Price out the bucket over the box. RC is almost always cheaper by the bucket, but IO is cheaper by the box.

No idea why, but he is right.

Shop around, you can find it cheaper.

I just found death crystals @ $39.99 for the 160G pail. and IO for $54.99 for the same pail. Yet the 200G box is the same price as the pail for IO, but the 200G box of RC is around $60.

Where are you quoting from Bulk reef has it for $62 for reef crystals buckets and $54 for IO buckets or boxes. 160 gallon on buckets and 200 gallons for boxes as usual.

BRS isn't the only place that sells salt. lol

BRS is the one place I will not buy salt from, way overinflated pricing.

Nearly everyone besides BRS sells it for cheaper.

I often buy the 200G box of IO for around $30. When I find it that cheap, I'll buy a few boxes so I have enough for a while. My UPS guys hates me when I buy 10 boxes at a shot. lol

Haven’t bought from bulk reef for a long time just used them as reference. I buy from my local FS to keep it local. But if I find a deal I jump on it. I’ll look at Chewy thanks.

Not even close to being true. I buy 200G boxes of IO for about $30. As I already mentioned, chewy is overpriced too, you can find it cheaper without much digging.
