Like a thin thumb...from tiny hands...

Can anyone ID this thing growing in a piece of dead coral in my 65 fowlr?...it is hard...but the way its sticking up, I'm sure that I would have noticed it in the 9 months or so that I've had that piece...

I don't think so...its as hard as the rest of the rock and about 1 1/2" long...IDK...might have been there from the start and just didn't notice it...

Is it flat? Looks like the shape of halimeda, but it wouldnt feel like rock if it was.

A picture from a different angle would help a lot. (It can't be bubble algae as OP said its hard to the touch)

best guess yet...it does calcify...becomes sand...but no chain yet...just that one tiny thumb...sort of Trumpian...
