Can anyone ID this thing growing in a piece of dead coral in my 65 fowlr?...it is hard...but the way its sticking up, I'm sure that I would have noticed it in the 9 months or so that I've had that piece...

I don't think so...its as hard as the rest of the rock and about 1 1/2" long...IDK...might have been there from the start and just didn't notice it...Looks like it could be bubble algae covered in detritus.

best guess yet...it does calcify...becomes sand...but no chain yet...just that one tiny thumb...sort of Trumpian...Is it flat? Looks like the shape of halimeda, but it wouldnt feel like rock if it was.
