Set up my red sea 50 gallon aquarium 2 weeks now, it's become very cloudy.

Please share solutions! Thanks!

It looks like a bacterial bloom. Did you use live rock or dry rock. How did you cycle. You say two weeks - did you use anything to rapid cycle (Fritz, Dr. Tims, etc..)?

I used live rock and no rapid cycle chemicals...should I use any chemicals? Thanks

Being the tank is just starting I would let it run it’s course and not add any chemicals. Adding a uv filter would help keep your water clear.

Perhaps due to things on the live rock that have died? You can also try temporarily using 100 micron (or smaller) filter socks. It won't eliminate a bacterial bloom but will remove much residual cloudiness. Also check nitrates; if very high, do water changes.

So.. Reefer 250 with live rock and 2 weeks in... First.. No more fish - the clownfish should make it.. No further additions please. What you are experiencing is to be expected. Your tank has not fully cycled yet. Bacteria are vying for position at this time. If it were me and you have the resources.. Go out and get (Fritz or Dr. Tims ) a nitrifying bacteria designed to help with the cycle. Remember.. the only thing that happens in this hobby quickly is failure..

How many pounds of live rock and where did you source it? Are you testing?

IF YOU HAD TO TAKE A REEFING EXAM, WOULD YOU PASS?
