Hi reef2reef! My new crystal dynamics tank will be arriving tomorrow. Their tanks are Euro braced on top and rimless on the bottom. I was wondering what kind of mat to place between the tank and my stand. I will be using the stand I am currently using. It’s a steel frame with just a piece of 3/4 inch birch plywood on top.
my current tank has a plastic rim on the bottom that’s why I don’t have anything between the tank and the plywood. Here’s a picture of the stand and tank.

Your tank manufacturer should specify what they want under their tank. I know my most recent tank called for 3/4 styrofoam....which I thought was way too much thickness, and would raise my tank more than I wanted. So I picked up a camper's sleeping bag mat at WalMart (uncompressed, about 1/2 inch) that worked out just fine.

Here's a picture showing it compressed under the tank, and a piece of uncompressed next to it.

I was considering a yoga mat.
Yea it worked out fairly nice I think. I laid it out on my stand placed my tank on top and used a X-acto Knife to trim the edge down. Rolled up the rest and put it in my fish closet.

Ask the manufacturer what they recommend!!! Best way to preserve the warranty. Current tank looks nice by the way. What’s the purple acro in front of and below the bottlebrush?

I will ask them when they deliver my tank tomorrow. Maybe they’ll bring me a piece.
the acro underneath the bottlebrush is a yellow tip austera. That coral grows really fast. It went from frag to colony size in one year.

Do you really need a mat under your tank? I am not trying to tell you what to do. I have seen it both ways. I have never used one in my acrylic tanks and i have a custom AGE rimless and they said i didnt need one if my stand was flat.

Just curious is all.

We always use a thin Sheet of Regiform between the tank and the stand. It gives a small leeway and provide nice medium inbetween it.!
