Hello everyone,

Yesterday I got myself 3 wild acro mini colonies. Didn't want mini colonies but vensors who retrieve them will only take mini colonies.. oh well. 2 of those acros are millies. What care tips can you give me regarding their care? Both are already showing PE so I guess that's a good sign. Anyway, parameters are :

Calcium : 500
Alk : 7
Nitrate : 25, trying to lower with water changes and less feeding
Salinity : 1.026
Temp : 25 - 26 °C
Ph : 8
I can't test Mag and PO4 right now because I don't have test kits for them, will try to get them ASAP
I dose Kalkwasser from a dripper to maintain levels.
Light is a Spectra AquaKnight V2 and Powerhead is a Jebao SOW-4 set to full speed and Else mode (random flow)

Those rocks look pretty new, how old is your tank? And you probably should bring your alk up to around 9.

The tank's around 6 months old, the rock came from a previous tank. They look pretty white because it was covered by a BTA till a while ago when I removed it to sell so no coralline could grow.

I wanted Alk to be lower to mimic NSW, any benefit to keeping it at 9?

Your alk is fine at 7. Higher alk can increase growth rate, but also increases the risk of burnt tips.
500 Calc seems pretty high though...
Yes my salt mixes at 490, dosing kalk bumped it up a little, been trying to get it lower but no LPS seems to grow fast enough do anything significant.

I'll keep Alk there then. Thanks!

Millepora is a shallow water species for the most part and will do best with a ton of coverage. Those colonies have a lot of shaded portions which will be an issue in the weeks to come

Thabks for the reply, will try to position them to get the most light coverage

Added a millepora mini colony as my first acro. I put it at the top of my tank and under high flow. I’m just 4 weeks you can see the growth on the left. Also you can see it’s completely encrusted the tag I cut off when I first put it in.
