My pH had been steady around 8. On the 28th I had an issue with skimmer and return pump. They were both significantly clogged and I cleaned increasing flow on both. They were clogged due to excessive hair aglea from my fuge. My chaeto is still growing well. I decided to reduce my fuge light on time to reduce hair algea. Reducing from a complete reverse lighting strategy to a reverse strategy with some off time. Only 9 hours of on time now.

I suspect the extra aeration of increased flow after cleaning is the cause of the. 15 pH increase.

I do not run any doses, just hand dosing.

I am not currently in town the check on anything.

Thoughts?

I wouldn’t worry about it. That’s a small increase. When will you get back to the tank?

More aeration can either raise or lower the pH, depending on whether the tank at the time is in deficit or has excess CO2 relative to the air you are aerating with.

In fact, the peak pH may drop and the bottom pH may rise (reducing the swing), and with perfect aeration, pH will be very steady if alkalinity is steady.
