Last night, I looked into my tank to see my Fungia sitting happily on the substrate.....and when I woke up the next morning.......IT WAS GONE! I've looked all over for it (in the rockwork, under the sand) but I just cannot find it! I've kept Fungia corals for years, and this is the firs time it's happened. There's no disturbance in the sand around where the coral was, either. Maybe I was sleep walking???

Has anything like that ever happened to you guys?

Was it imported from the Bermuda Triangle? To me it's a mystery of the universe how things can disappear in a little box of water.

How large was it? Did you have a goby that could have taken it to his lair?

Haha!! That is Really Strange though. We have a Diamond Goby who grabs everything he can grab, But hes never touched our Frags. Hope you Find it!!

Had a perc alone in a 30g. One day he was gone... poof. Never found a body or trace. While confused, I did watch Fringe so it's obvious he was fishnapped into a parallel universe.

I'd move the aquascape around a bit, but I don't want disturb any of my other corals.....the crab does live in a hole in a piece of live rock, and he likes to block the entrances with stuff like shells and bits of rock (he's actually stashed a dead Fungia skeleton there before), but I can't see the live Fungia anywhere......oh well....Live and learn, I guess.......maybe I should put some cameras around, and reenact Paranormal Activity.

UPDATE! After searching through my rockwork for quite a while, I found the Fungia wedged into crevice.....I suspect it was the crab (I have no idea what sort of crab it is (I can't get pics) and it has never done this to any of my other Fungias). When I found it, most of the tissue had been torn off the skeleton, and the mouth has completely disappeared :( I've placed the dying coral in a low flow area with medium lighting, as I've heard dead Fungias sometimes produce new corals............ First time anything like this has happened to me....Weird....

Good to Hear!! Glad you found it, To bad about its condition. Hopefully she comes back!

Often times crabs can be spiteful, vindictive little monsters. It's been my experience that if they don't get things exactly their way they'll lash out in destructive ways. Should you witness such behavior the best thing to do is flick them.

Spank? Of course not! Flick? Absolutely. Crabs must be put in their place and a firm talking to never gets results.

***UPDATE***
I successfully caught the crab, and relocated him to where he can cause less harm. As for the Fungia....it is doing magnificently. It is most certainly not dead (the mouth was still intact...or grew back...) and is now inflating its tissue. There are several areas that are missing tissue, but the coral seems to be on the mend, and is not dying on me. This is what I love about reefing....being able to observe nature do its little miracles before my very eyes!
