I had to turn my cooling fans OFF today late in the photoperiod because the tank was getting too cool. 77.0 is a little chilly

I take the glass out of ALL of my single ended fixtures. Of course, you have to keep it in the double ended ones. Never had a single bulb crack since 1992 and there are splash spots on all of the bulbs.

I have always done this as well. I just wipe the bulbs clean every week and keep going. Never had one break. I think it will take a huge splash of water for them to actually pop.

Same. I actually messaged JDA with this same concern a year and a half ago when I put my new pendants up since they didn’t have glass with them. I do see splash marks on my bulbs all the time. You’d have to dunk the bulb in the water when it was on and hot for it to explode I think

I run a fan across the top of the water and below my bulbs. They are still hot, but if your arm accidentally hits them, they will not burn you unless you keep it there for a few seconds. This really helps, I think. ...so they are hot, but not lava hot.

I am curious as to what bulbs everyone is refrencing here.

If your talking about the T-5 florescent lamps then yes I agree no harm no foul.
If your talking about Metal Halide lamps well I disagree compleatly.
They can not be touched by the hand or arm, they simply burn to hot.
