I bought this sunset monti about a month ago. It was a little bleached but had beautiful shape. It has slowly continued to lose color but has grown into the rocks. Wayer parameters good (pH 8.1, alk 8.5-9, calcium 450ish, temp 82, nitrates varying btwn 10 and 16 between water changes.). Is light, temp, or nitrates the biggest factor? Is there any chance of resurrection? If so, what should I do? 3 other encrusting montis doing great.

Typo - 81. My softies really liked it in my old tank. I have considered lowering. I was seen ranges up to 84, but agree 78 appears to quoted as top temp for frequently.

I had the same problem when phosphate reached zero on a hanna checker

Get some phosphates in there! Do you have any phosphate removal media installed such as GFO, Phosguard, etc?

I had the same in montipora digi, it grew well for months to a year then had slow growth and alot of it started going pale, I lost it all except a couple of polyps. I found it to be zero phosphates, I have been dosing a diy mixture of monopotassium phosphate for the last 3-4 weeks at 1ml per 90litres and I have seen great improvements, from where I was 4 months ago. I went from this

all pale and no colour then stn

OP make sure there are no nudi on the monti cap. I see two white things on the top of the coral but they are too small to I’d. It looks irritated and not just pale from low phosphate.

Your alk is too high for zero po4. Chemipure blue has po4 absorbing media, so take that out, let your alk drop to 8 and start feeding your fish more.

Any updates? I'm having the same issues with 3 Montis. I had 0 Nitrates for a while even though Phosphates were present. I started dosing Nitrates a few days ago and brought them up to 4ppm. I'm not seeing improvement yet. Alk is around 8.4.

I would give it more than a few days. Everything in this hobby takes time, so give it a few more days with raises nitrates. What r your other params?

might take some time...

Salinity - 1.024 (bringing this up slowly to 1.025)
Phos - .1 to .2
Calc - 400
Mag - 1400
Alk - 8.36
Temp - 77.7-78.4
PH - 8.1ish (just calibrated it; don't have a range but usually 7.8-8.1)

Dosing
Acropower - 5ml/day
All-for-Reef - 3.5ml/day

Just started Rowaphos to bring the phosphates down some.

Growing chaeto in the sump and I run a Reef Octo 152-SS skimmer (skimming very dry).

easy. Your alk is too high for low nitrates. Nitrates that low your alk should be at 7.6-8

It was actually much higher (almost 10) and I read a lot of comments in line with yours, which is why I started dropping it. I never found a comment that actually recommended a value though, so thanks for that. How long do you think I need to take to drop it down that much more?

I personally don’t like changing my alk more than .3 dkh per day
