I picked up a red Monti cap frag. I am still new to the hobby. I am going back and forth trying to decide what the best spot is for this frag. I have a 28g nanocube 150MH HQi. I am thinking of this rock at the back of the tank maybe a little more than half way up. It is out of the way and the frag plug fits convenetly in a hole. I have read on a few sources they like stronger light, but have also heard from people they would bleach and it do better lower in the tank. Also, the shading issue... I think in the back I am not going anything other then this in the corner if I put it there. If it does get to big, I can frag it by just breaking off a piece? I have some pics. Any input would be much appreciated.

Someone with more experience might want to chime in but from what I understand, it will grow differently depending on where its placed. For instance if its lower it will grow up towards the light and if its higher it will grow out more. I have mine about halfway up in the tank and not directly under the lights and it has great color and a growth patern that I find desirable.

half way up sounds good i have some half way and close to the top. i would start it off low in the tank then work it up.

Mine sits in the middle of my tank. Just be aware that these corals can take up a lot of real estate.

Are you able to frag it and keep its size in check? If it grows out in the direction I have it I think it would be fine. If it started going out over the rocks...

Yes I do occasionally frag a few pieces to keep it in check.

i have all sorts of colors of cap all ove the tank. high, low, middle, all gorw like weeds and keep great color. all are under what would be considered VERY high light. the only one i have that seems to like to be a bit lower then the rest is my neon green caps. up high they darken up a bit and lose some of the pop. but lower in the tank they get very bright and have a metalic shine almost. other then that one placemnt never seemed to mater for me

Cool, thanks guys. I think I am going to leave it there. Now, my only regret it maybe not getting one with a crazier color, but this is what he had and the price was good. It wasn't under as strong a light as mine when I bought it. Do you guys think the color will change any with time?

id go low you have plenty of light.in a small tank you are going to want the realestate later trust me.in my experience the orange caps color up even low in the tank.
