Good morning everybody,

I just set up a Innovative Marine Lagoon 50 AIO and I’m trying to figure out which pumps to use. I love ecotech because of how the motor is on the outside so I’m definitely set on them. Here is what I’m not sure which setup to run.

Two MP40s
or
Two MP10s
or
One MP40 and one MP10

I’d really appreciate any advice. Thank you!

I generally prefer the MP40s since they can be turned down to meet your needs but the 10s can only be turned up so far (and they provide an upgrade path should you go with a bigger tank down the road). With that said, also check glass thickness requirements.

Ohhhh great point with the glass thickness! Let me check into that. I also agree with the 40s providing an upgrade path!

As mentioned above, I would just stick with MP40s and just turn them down. They are only $70 more and you’ll get a lot more flow if needed.

I have an MP10 that I originally bought to go into a Reefer 250 (54 gallons) with a WAV that was already in there and the MP10 was too weak to provide very much additional flow. It’s now in my much smaller 20 gallon grow out tank.

I would only buy another one of I was setting up a 30 gallon or less cube of some sort.

My glass thickness is 10mm and the mp10’s max thickness is 9.5mm. Do you think that .5mm will cause a problem if decide to go with the 10s?

Like others have said go with MP40’s in case you ever decide to upgrade. Concerning the thickness I use an MP10 for a mixing pump in my 35 gallon holding tank, it holds fine for being just over the thickness.

Two MP10s will be plenty. MP40s will be too big and an eyesore on the sides of that size tank. I run 2 MP10s on a 65 and house nems, SPS and they cover it easily.

Right.... 2 MP40s on my 210 moves a ton of water, I can’t imagine that same amount of flow in a tiny 50g lol
OH no doubt! Those things can PUSH water...

Why I feel that two MP10s... opposite corners/sides.. (bottom back of tank LEFT and front top of tank RIGHT) I run that single MP10 and its a lot!

In thinking of a 40 on my IM 75. One the glass thickness is too much for a 10, and two the upgrade proof for the future is worth it.

I ran 2 MP40s WEs (QD wets) at 100% (NTM) on my 75g acro dominant tank. Have a pair of MP40QDs on my 150 that are running about 60% on a mixed reef. On the lowest setting, they'll work in just about any tank.
