My heater just exploded

So like the title says... My heater just shorted out started smoking and shooting sparks.. the fish are alive.. at the moment... I just...I don't know what to do..

PS: everything has been unplugged and shut off I'm just kinda... In shock...(no pun intended)

do you have any corals/inverts in the tank?
big water change as soon as you can.
Run fresh carbon and change in couple of days.
Another large water change in 2-3 days.
keep a close watch on the fish.
its great your hand wasn't in the tank when this happened.

I was sleeping! And just BAM light show in my tank. And I have my live rock, 3 fish, some hermit crabs and one itty baby snail. I figured I'd take care of it in the morning
