Man my big 10" Naso was just hanging around the bottom and he never does this. I went to feed and he ate a little and then literally spit it all up a minute later like he was throwing up. Then I remembered a couple od days ago I was picking some bubble algae off and he ate some whole unbusted pieces. Do you think he will recover? Hes just lazy being pushed around by the current swimming, but nothing like normal.

Wow Rev... sorry to hear that. I wonder if he was able to digest that bubble algae? Maybe it created a blockage or something.

If he doesn't eat then you have little to no chance, quite honestly. Hopefully he turns it around and starts eating soon. Do you have a QT or HT set up and would it be possible to remove him? I don't know that that is very practical for a 10" tang, though...

How toxic is bubble algae? Maybe he just has a stomach ache? May sound stupid but hey anything that has a stomach I would assume can have a stomach ache?

Yes I hope he is just sick, but man he looks good, but hes just hanging on the sand barely swimming.

Rev,
I wouldn't concern yourself with the bubble algae....

On the surface- My !st thought is still some type of internal anomaly due to the fish's appearance and symptoms....

Suggestion:
take an orange and slice it into 1/4s then slice the 1/4s approx 1/8" thick and add a slice to the tank utilizing an algae clip....
if she will pick at it the acid and vitamin C should help with any digestion....

if she doesn't accept the orange, manhaidens oil, or luggol's added to any food she will at least pick at would be my 2nd strategic attack

it is possible, if she is taking in food and then regurgitating at a noticeable level, she could be suffering a bout of constipation.....
the orange is IMO one of the best natural remedies.....

Observation of the pic did not reveal any unusual bulges or body lumps that I was able to see....

at the obvious risk of sounding absolutely ridiculous...... if it is constipation- you should be able to notice a slight swelling or redness around her rectum...

if there are internal parasites the orange and or oils should allow for her to release which would give us a chance to observe other signs prior to infestation beyond recovery...
(note: watch for any extra long fecal strands that do not release from the body immediately)

One other possibility is the bubble algae was inhaled whole as you say it is still in the mouth cavity
blocking the passageway. I have had other fish do the same. Manual removal of the blockage was
the only cure. hth

JR,

Yea it lived all day but when I got home it was sucked to a vortech that i had put on the lowest flow setting so it would be easier on it. It was barely moving a fin and had developed some weird looking white spots. Not ich, these were large. I had to euthanize my buddy sadly enough. But I knew it was for the best. :(

Very sorry to hear Rev. Just crazy how a fish can deteriorate so quickly....

Yes and I firmly believe it was due to eating whole unbusted bubble algae pieces.

Thanks.

I think I am going to get me a Blonde Naso to replace my buddy.

I love Nasos... every one I see is always out in front of the glass. My LFS had one that would let you pet it when it swam by. Sorry about the loss Rev! :(
