anybody have any ideas? are these replaceable? ....do I really need it? ...its a 56G column....at least it isn't leaking yet, i think there is enough plastic left to hold it, How do you keep these from melting? i have about 4" of clearance (the light is on 4 feet which hold it up) and there is a glass cover between the tank and the light, should i place something reflective over this area>

I would raise it higher by building a platform. You probably want to replace the brace to be on the safe side.

The brace is part of the top rim of the tank. You would need to cut it out and probably cutbacks new piece to screw onto the remaining brace that is left in good shape. Just be sure to either plastic weld it in place or use screws that are non corrosive. Either suspend/hang the light higher or build platforms to raise it up.

Personally I would not replace the support bracing unless it just to distracting

As the others have said, you will need to raise your lights. Halides are not LEDs, they give off tremendous heat (one of the reasons I got rid of mine). I had mine about 12" off the surface.
