Hi there,
Newbie here, getting into the hobby. My husband is the tank guy but he is in the middle of the ocean right now so I figured I’d reach out to you lovely folks. I woke up this morning and my beautiful powder blue tang is covered in dark spots. He was lethargic yesterday and didn’t really eat any of the algae I put in for him. The first picture is what he looked like yesterday and the second is what he looks like this morning. Is this Ich and does he stand a chance? Should I take him out of the tank? Please help!

Looks like velvet from the first picture. The second shows the effects of all of the insertion points of the parasites. Here's a treatment plan:

Do a freshwater dip. It will remove a tremendous number of the parasites from the fish's gills so it can breathe better. And this will help buy you time as velvet can kill quickly.

Immediately follow the dip with a 60 minute bath in Ruby Reef Rally. This step greatly increases the survival rate as RRR has both antiseptic and antibiotic qualities.

In a QT dose the tank with Copper Power to 1.0 ppm and then raise the copper to therapeutic level of 2.0 within 24-48 hours. Treat for at least 14 days and then can move the fish to a sterile tank to observe for 14 more days. Or continue to treat in the copper for 30 days.

Watch for bacterial infections during the copper treatment. Antibiotics like Kanaplex, Furan2 work well.

We are here to help! Don't hesitate to ask. Do you have copper to treat with?
I literally have nothing, I'm headed to my local store now to buy everything I need. I have a QT tank, but I need to get it set up and running.

This would happen the second my husband leaves for a trip @ENGReef

Thank you all for your help, unfortunately bluey, as our son called him, did not make it ☹️. Fingers crossed that it won’t take out our other fish.
