Hi All!

So I have been running a single MP40 on my 125 for a few years now and have always had a smaller Hydor pump on the opposite side for additional flow. I very close to getting a second MP40 to replace the Hydor but have some questions about modes.

I have always ran the single MP40 on Reefcrest with about 80% speed. I am starting to wonder if that is too much for what I typically keep in my tank. Mainly softies, Frogspawn and Hammers.

Would anyone have recommendations on the speed portion that I should be running at? I always feel that side of the tank is being blasted.

Any thoughts on Lagoon Mode? I like the idea of the changing speed to create that back and forth motion.

Thanks!

Oops.. I clicked something and didn’t finish. Sorry

I run 2 MP40s in my 180 mixed reef, on either ends of the tank. I also use the reeflink to control them and my radions via the EcoSmartLive cloud app. I run a multitude of programs in my tank in the attempt to stir up detritus and to keep flow random. I also have a huge amount of flow from the sump in the basement on the tune of around 19x's gph twv. This return flow is spread across four outlets across the back of the tank. I like a lot of flow and like to keep it as random as possible with the MP40s help with.

Having said all of this, I rarely will take the overall speed of any of the program up to 80%. I have elegance, torch, hammer and softies in the tank. I will visually gauge the movement of these corals, if they are getting blasted, I will back off. Torches actually like a bit more flow so I have positioned them to see more in their location.

The advantage of the cloud programming, you can program over 24 hour period. So at night, I will reduce flow considerably, maybe 20% from the MP40s. I will then run either nutrient export or a short pulsing mode in the morning or late evening before lights ramp up and before they ramp down. I will then do various programs through the course of the day.

For your tank, adding the second MP40 and if you were to add the reeflink, you could follow something similar. Of course, you may find that a lower intensity will give you what you are looking for.

Hope this is helpful.

Very much so! Thank you

I have a 180G with 4 MP40QD's. Top two facing each other are on 100% reef crest random, bottom two are on 100% reef crest anti-sync. Very happy with the flow and results, I only reduce to 80% at night.

Everything seems to be happy and thriving. That is until I do something stupid to aggravate my acro's....
