Hello everyone. I am completely starting over in my WB Reef 100.3 (36" long). I want to go with alot of smaller fish. What is the rule of thumb for stocking fish? I would prefer nothing larger than 3-4 inches. I currently have a 32G Biocube set up ill be moving over the fish from that tank to this one. Here is what the current stocking list is.

Bonded Pair of Storm Clowns
Tail Spot Blenny
3 PJ Cardinals

In what amount of inches could I add to this tank? I plan on having alot of rockwork for everything to hide. Also fish suggestions would be greatly appreciated as well.

You will get a lot of answers for stocking quantity. The answer isn't so much inches as total bioload and if the animals have sufficient territories. For instance, a 5 in tang (don't reccomend this) will produce a lot more waste than five 1 in chromis. You will also want to be sure to spread all the animals out in the tank. Too many rock dwellers, too many that free swim or claim territories could all overcrowd the tank, without it really being full.

The best bet is to add slowly, watch your parameters and how territories settle out, and go from there. (sorry, I know that's not a number).

That said, some fish to explore:

Dartfish
Smaller varieties of fairy/flasher wrasse.
Royal Gramma
Firefish
Most gobies
Chromis (properly quarentined)

You may have some other options if you don't plan to keep coral or inverts too.

Firefish
Cardinals
Flame hawk
Dwarf angels
Clown goby

I have three royal Grammas in my 60 cube and love to watch the interaction. Added them when they were as small as I could find and they’ve done great. Wish I would have gone with 5! In my 25 gallon (plumbed into same system) my wife wanted a lot of movement, and given the small tank size I opted to acclimate mollies to SW and I have actually enjoyed them in the tank. Gives it a lot of movement. I know not everyone likes the freshwater in saltwater look, but I opted for the pure black ones and think they were a good addition.

I always forget about the mollies, but I have two I added a year ago. They are pretty decent algae grazers too.

Dwarf angels can pick at coral. Seems to entirely depend on the fish. I've heard of perfect citizens and then heard of others that massacre a zoa garden overnight. For that reason, I don't attempt them.

I realize I've never even considered keeping PJ and bangaii's together. An internet search showed me that people do it and don't seem to usually have issues, but maybe someone else here has first-hand experience?

I have a flame angel in each of my 3 tanks. I have a Coral beauty and potters and flame in my big tank - No issues. they graze during non-feeding

didnt know if you could or not but i thought it must be ok since i mentioned i already had 3 PJ's i was gonna move over from the biocube.

I was doing a little searching last night and wonder if a Pink-Streaked Wrasse and Yellow Banded Possum Wrasse could go in that tank together with it being a larger tank than what both are recommend for.
