I was inspired to start this thread after reading about tuffyyyyy’s heartbreak over his tank crash. I thought this might be a good time and place for us all to share our hardest and most painful moments in reefing.

I’ll start off with my loss of two beautiful male Rhomboid wrasses over a two week period. First one I lost due to my own negligence having not covered my tank. I decided to get another and it still managed to jump from my tank with a cover. To this day I have no idea how he escaped. $700 out the door in two weeks has cured me of expensive fish for good and almost made me quit the hobby. I had a full morality check having contributed to the loss of those fish.

We love to share our successes and as inspiring as they may be, maybe sharing our losses can be a moment of comfort for someone feeling the bitter taste of defeat. This could be especially true if some of our members with legendary looking tanks could share when things didn’t quite go as planned. We’ve all had those moments so let’s share and give people hope.

My current tank has been set up for 3 or so year. I have been collecting SPS frags at a LFS where I help out and I had acquired some nice specimens that have been growing right along. I always dip, but somehow I still managed to bring home the dreaded AEFW. I didn't believe that the tank was infested at first. My eye sight is terrible and I had difficulty seeing the worms until they were massive in size and appetite. I watched colonies bleach and die for a 4 or 5 months before I figured out what the problem is. I've been pulling and dipping for a couple of months now, and the pile of Indo skeletons just keeps getting bigger.

Slowly I think I am winning the battle, but I've lost a couple of years of irreplaceable Indo frags/colonies that I had cherry picked for grow out. I've been kind of upset about this for a while and don't talk about it much, I just keep going.

Last week the Dr. told me I probably have cancer, so he ordered some tests. I don't know why I bought some frags today. I still haven't told my wife about any of this. I'm hoping to get the tank in order soon.

Sorry to hear of your cancer, I have a cousin 58, with Colon cancer , going through chemo.
Today doctor have more info/experience with cancer. You'll be fine.

Kris, you are the ultimate "never give up' story for this thread. Please, never give up! I'm sure we will all be hoping you get good news on the medical situation soon. I lost my older brother to pancreatic cancer 8 months ago. I'm 69 and my health is pretty good, but I think about it more and more every day. Best of luck to you!
