I am interested in how you might condition/rinse/pretreat a new filter sock if you do at all? I did not find much in the search engine. Thanks for your response.

I just rip the tag off the inside, and throw them in use. Never really thought about it.

Maybe just a water wash in the washing machine?

I rinse it with tap water first. My skimmer goes nuts if I just throw it straight in without rinsing. There seems to be some residue when they manufacture these.

I'll wash new ones along side old ones to get that new off before using. Same as previously mentioned in regards to making the skimmer go nuts.

I used to use one, but they were so dense it did not do anything but contribute to noise salt creep, and overflowing my tank. But I did just rinse it in tap water and run some RO through it in the day

i unplug my skimmer and replace the socks. [edit: after about 10-15minutes, i turn the skimmer back on.] currently cycle between 6-8 socks that i routinely soak in bleach then wash and soak in fw before replacing old ones. cheaper than buying new socks over and over..

I just added new socks yesterday, and took out of box, rinsed in tap and placed in sump. Go with Mesh type which is super easy to clean by hand in under a minute and traps small micron particles well

What mesh size/style do you use?
