Hey All!!

Happy to be a member of a great group of open arms and Im sure just a myriad of knowledge with anything I need help with (especially the deportation of my girlfriend ) Im kidding im kidding.

Anyway I have been out of the hobby since 2010 because I moved from Florida to Ohio for my girlfriend, I know. Needless to say I had to part with my 29gal tank which wasnt much and to be honest I looked for the last set of pics when it was in prime and they are MIA. So what i do have is a couple of pics from when It was fairly virgin and they are posted. This tank was a shafty piece by piece collection of parts and hand-me-downs from friends and fellow hobbyists with tons of trial and error which became the love of my life...at the time.

So this year for christmas I got a gift cert. to Aquarium Adventure!! And that led to a drilled 75gal. Everything store bought NEW for the first time in my hobby career and it feels pretty good. Something about it tells me Im not a diehard reefer because of it but I had to spend the cert. Pictures are also posted. It was set up 1 week ago today and nothing has changed except for the brown hair algae which is on the rocks.( I think time for a mini cleaner crew)

With the above being said please help guide me with what my next steps are for the tank, lead me to the threads about supplies I might need like fish nets, cleaning tools etc. And also steps as far as test water, add fish, add coral and timing for it all.

Thanks for listening and looking!!

Just spent the last 30min trying to re-size the 29gal pics. Couldn't get them small enough:sad:

Hey Jeff, welcome aboard. Do you have an RO/DI unit? Good skimmer? There are some good on line stores, but if there's a good LFS nearby, that's always a bonus. I'd look for more local knowledge about what LFS's might be near you, get involved with a local reef club.

There are a number of on line vendors who are sponsors here:

Foster and Smith Aquatics, including Live Aquaria for livestock.
The Filter Guys
Bulk Reef Supply

RO/DI is THE next thing.

Yea the skimmer I got is a Eshopps PSK-100. I read some reviews online after purchase and they said it was rated OK, 75gal MAX which is a little disappointing but will do for now. Its what the LFS suggested and what they carried, which is "Aquarium Adventure".

Talked to a few guys there and they mentioned a Central Ohio organization of some sort so I need to do some looking into that.

Thanks for the Vendor recs.

Hi Jeff!! Welcome to R2R!! Great to have ya!! Glad you're getting back into reefing! :D

Welcome to R2R and congrats on the new tank!

If you haven't already, you may want to check out this thread in the New to Hobby/Saltwater Beginners Forum.

A couple of books that we would recommend:
The New Marine Aquarium: Step-By-Step Setup and Stocking Guide by Mike Paletta
The Conscientious Marine Aquarist by Robert Fenner (2008 edition)

Hi Jeff! Welcome (back) to the hobby! And hello from a fellow Ohioan!
You don't mention where in Ohio exactly, but based on the reference to AA, you must be in the central area like me. We have a great local club (Central Ohio Reef Aquarists - "CORA") you should check out if you haven't already (corareef.org).
As for LFS, AA is the biggest and the only one that stocks a wide variety of tanks, but check out Phishy Business on the east side for livestock. They are a saltwater only store and the staff is much more knowledgeable and won't steer you wrong. For equipment, IMO, none of the LFS carry a very wide variety of quality items, so online is the best bet. There are a lot of great sponsors of R2R and CORA that have everything you would ever need.

Thanks Perched-Urch! We live in the Powell area and have now heard twice about Phishy Business & CORA since being on the forums. Cant wait to check out the store and go to a few of the CORA meets.

I'm new as well to this forum and the saltwater side of the hobby as well, if your ever around the lancaster area check out sea tide aquariums as they have a great selection of saltwater fish and corals. Sadly as much as I've heard I've never made it to aquarium adventures, it's close to an hour drive from here and I'm scared of Columbus driving. But anyways welcome from another new member and a fellow buckeye.
