Hello everyone,

Im brand new to mtrc and Im really excited to be part of it. Ive been around aquariums for about 10 years but never got into saltwater...until now. Ive always just had freshwater tanks, which I still have one. So I didnt jump into a 180 gallon tank for my first saltwater setup. I bought a 28gal JBJ nano cube from the critter 2 weeks ago. Ive had it up and running the day I bought it so its still in its cycle phase. Ive been doing alot of reading on forums and trying to learn as much as I can before I start stocking it with coral/fish. I will probably hold out, if I can, until the april 14th expo/swap. I would like to support the locals and hopefully get some good deals on corals for my first time around incase I kill something lol. So here it is...

As of right now I have 21lbs of carribean live rock and 14 lbs of fuji live rock and sand. I have at least 3 brittle stars that came as hitchhikers and they seem to be doing well still as their arms (tentacles?) are always sticking out of the rocks at night.

Welcome to the club and to the salt side of the hobby. You are in for some good times. Tank looks good. Keep researching and be patient. That's the best thing you can do.

Welcome.... Once your liverock has cured, I would advise you add something to the system to keep your biofiltration fead. Don't wait until a swap meet because you will want to come home with more than your new little tank can handle. Start with a good cleaner crew and maybe one of the hardiest fish you plan on keeping. Just leaving your rock in there with no biload will produce no bacteria. I did freshwater aquariums growing up and started doing saltwater reef aquariums in the mid 90's. It's a whole different beast. There are quite a few things that you have to unlearn and relearn for the transition. Take it slow and have fun.

Welcome to MTRC Matt, Your New Tank looks great for your first attempt and if you need any help this is the place to get it!

As soon as your ammonia and nitrates zero out, add the CUC, and a couple of fish.

Do you have any plans on specific livestock? fish/corals

I want to get as much color as I can in the tank. I also want a full look for the tank as well. I really don't have anything in mind yet on exactly what I'm getting yet

Color won't be a problem. A full look will take a little bit though. I'm sure you'll figure out what you like the more you keep researching.

Just a suggestion, but you really should plan everything you want to keep before you start with anything. And absolutely no impulse buying unless you are sure it is compatable with your plan!

Welcome, never hesitate to ask for anything... great knowledge here, excluding myself!

I also just started out with the nano about a year and a half ago and that tank really spoiled me as I really didn't have to do anything to it and just upgraded to a 90 gal and it seems to be a different world and some of these guys have already helped me! I was invited to the meeting last month and and couldn't make it( sorry guys) but that was the first I heard of this club so I guess I am saying I'm new to you guys also!

I'm working on a list to put together I'll post it when I have it
