I just got my skimmer for my 55g tank it's a hob cylinder type with a sub pump at has air intake control. My question is what is the appropriate lvl to run then air intake (also controls the vol of water in skimmer)? I hand it at almost all the way open. Plus how long does it take to break in? No foam yet on any lvl setting. Then again tank is still cycling. Any help or instructions on how to run this thing would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Most skimmers I have found (and recent experience taught) they take up to a week or more to fully break in. Mine took almost a month to fully break in and a couple weeks beyond that for teh micro bubbles to stopping being pumped into my display tank.
As for the settings I have no clue as every one is different

Atleast the micro bubbles show me any dead spots I may have in my tank nice way to show you flow

What skimmer is it? You are getting bubbles in the skimmer right? Are you just saying nothing is overflowing into the cup yet?

Bubbles in the skimmer Yes. No overflow yes and no bubble buildup. This is just a HOB 55g tank skimmer the uses a 300gph pump in the tank that has a air hose attached to it. Pretty much a cheap solution till I get my stand a sump built this summer then I'll DIY conver the skimmer to a sump skimmer. The only way to control the lvl of water in the skimmer is to adjust the air intake which also adjusts the bubbles in the skimmer. I just have nothing in the tank at the moment pooing and creating waist that the skimmer should pick up.
