New Skimmer Question

I am setting up my new 75 gallon tank and did work for one of my LFS that was not really too local. In trade they gave me a new reef octopus classic 202-s. Turns out it is too big for my sump, but not too big of a deal cause I can make a bigger one. The specs say this is for 160-380 gallon tanks so is there such a thing as too much protein skimmer? Should I sell this one and just get a smaller one?

So some people say there isn't but I tried to over skim and it just didn't work. What happened for me was I'd go a week with nothing then a quick burst then back to nothing.

I say the bigger the better. i would keep the one you have...PS Roll Tide.
