New tank setup

It is one tough Nem; it has survived a tank relocation that triggered very high nitrate and phosphate spikes. It seems very happy in its new home; beautiful green bubble tips.

I wouldn't worry about your ph at this point. I'm curious as to how your calc and alk are so high already with out any dosing.

Not sure why, I'm new to this hobby. I'm using Red Sea Coral Pro salt and the 75 gallon display tank has 50lbs pukani dry rock with 4" aragonite sand bed. The refugium has a 4" sand bed also; I'm assuming that is where the high calcium and alkalinity is coming from.

Thoughts?

yeah I would have waited more than 6 months at the very least to add the nem that's for sure goodluck :) ;0

Don't worry about the pH. Keep the rest of the parameters where they belong and pH will take care of itself usually. As you stated, adding something like kalkwasser will only add more Ca and Alk to the system just so you can say you have pH at 8.3.

Watch the livestock for traces of distress, but based on what you've stated they should be content.

What test kits are you using?

I'm wondering when I can start dosing kalkwasser? PH is dipping to 7.9 at night.

dKH: 10.92
Ca: 437
PO4: 0.04
NO3: 0.00
PH: 8.23

Based on your numbers, I don't see why you'd need it. Alkalinity and Calcium are dead on. Kalkwasser will either maintain those or even raise those numbers. pH of 7.9 in the winter isn't bad, since we don't get a lot of fresh air this time of year.

Edit: I pretty much told you that in my post on Jan 3. :)

Awesome. Yea, I'm new to this and have read a ton of information; sometimes, I just need a sanity check; that is why I joined this community.

I just added a few frags of lps and wanted to make sure that I'm ready and able to maintain pristine water parameters.

I do appreciate your input, and understand the frustration of repeating yourself. I need to figure out a more efficient way of managing my posts ;-)

No, I'm not frustrated. I had to review the thread to see what this tank was about because I didn't remember (I'm subscribed) and that's when I saw my earlier post. :) Keep up the good work. For now, I don't believe you need kalkwasser.

Wow very nice tank I like the rock wall it looks like a place I used to dive at years ago. Keep up the good work and happy reefing.
