My brother picked up a little Niger trigger as his starter fish in his predator softy reef tank, I swear to you this thing has Tourette's disorder. It hides in a barnacle when anyone goes near the tank and when it's not freaking out its twitching kind of like a clownfish will do after its partner has asserted it's dominance over it... Anything I can do? Or did he just get a bad fish

Here's another question could he add a clown trigger to the tank as long as the Niger hasn't been in the tank long enough to feel dominant?

How long has the tank been set up and what are the water parameters? I personally wouldn't add any more fish until I figured out what was wrong with the other one.

Nitrites 0 ammonia 0 phosphates 0 those all did go up at one point but came down steadily with the addition of helpful bacteria supplements to the tank nitrates 10ppm(had a problem with the skimmer that is now fixed) everything's solid I'm just wondering if triggerfish will attack each other or not

definately need to know the tank size how many other fish are in the tank with it the hiding is normal until it gets used to its new environ ment as far as the twitching goes its a teritorial display it will attack any hermits shrimp or other inverts in the tank and they need a 180g or larger tank as an adult if you have a 180g system or larger you could get away with another trigger but they may fight triggers are aggresive fish if he meets the above requirements of tank size another trigger should be added immediatly and it should be the same size or slightly larger than the current trigger

My little Sargassum trigger (about 3.5 inches) does that every now and then around my yellow tang (about 5 inches). He will lunge once in a while too. Both are in a 180g with plenty of hiding spaces.

Most likely the twitching is because of parasites. Could be ich or gill flukes. He's itchy so he will twitch or rub on rocks to try to remove the parasites. It's a pretty common thing for fish that haven't been quarantined.
