What if he took out the filter media from the canister (using it for carbon, GFO, etc, only), and ran the skimmer wet? Seems like he has a lot of live rock. would that lower his nitrates?

Sure, if he was running a huge skimmer it would work. He's got a big bio load in there.

I come here to get my education, and its helped me out a ton!
OK and I really do appreciate everyone's help :) still not educated as well as you guys but I'm learning. I plan on keeping just buttons at least until I get "control" over the nitrates. For now I have no intentions of getting other corals.

Would the copper anything else? My live rock would be OK? And would my buttons survive?

You cannot use copper in display tank if you ever want to keep corals or invertebrates. This sucks but if you really have ich, you need to treat fish in quarantine tank, and then keep your display tank fish less for 2 or 3 months till the ich dies off. Not a lot of great options. Sorry, we have all been there. :(

Ya and I don't have a quarantine tank. So I guess I have no choice. Thats disappointing.

Some fish recover from ich themselves,or at least it goes into remission it seems. The more stressed out/ unhealthy the more they are prone to it. Don't let this discourage you, just learn. The only reason people on here can give you advice is because we have gone through it ourselves. I have lost $200 worth of fish the couple months because I forgot to shut my hood and they took a jump.

Great quote "The answer to pollution is dilution"

Go to daily 5 gals until you see your nitrates in a better range. Then 2 days @ 5 gals each per week. Cheap and works great.
It worked for me when my skimmer was broke down for 3 months.

Unfortunately, she has bigger problems then high nitrates right now, she has some sick fish she is dealing with :(

I would not put copper anywhere near a reef tank. It'll kill off your rock and inverts for good. In regard to the ich you may just have to ride out the illness considering you don't have a qt tank. I had a rash of ich once and had to ride it out, at the time I was not as informed as I am today and failed to realize my ich problems directly correlated to the fact that I added livestock way to early. You may want to invest in a UV sterilizer, however, some steer away from this as they feel it kills off wanted bacteria along with unwanted bacteria.
