I'm looking to buy a nano. I really like the Nuvo 38 by innovative marine and the new JBJ 30 nano rimless. Question is, which one would would you go with?

It's hard to say without first trying both, and I don't anyone's done that yet. I can say that I've played with a few of Innovative's products, and they are to notch.

We have a Nuvo 16 running out the store, but it is housing seahorses, so I do not know if any info from that will help.

I picked the JBJ and am going to pair it up with the JBJ unibody led. The price and dimensions sold me on the JBJ. It is over $100 cheaper and I like that it is a more shallow style tank.

I would compare the Nuvo 38 more to a Solana, both are relatively the same size with cube shapes.

I have a NUVO 16 and I just like the nice modern look to it. I love the rimless feature. Personally I am not a big fan of hoods, which is seen on the JBJ.

For those that have not seen one yet, here is my JBJ Rimless... Nothing much to it yet, just rock and the JBJ led. The tank and led are top notch build quality, best nano style tank that I have played with yet. I also have the tank paired with a Vortech Mp10

Thanks buddy. I figured I would post an update to my tank to give others an idea on what they look like, etc. So far I only have an Onyx clown pair, various zoas, various SPS, and a few lps to round out my mixed reef. Now I am just going to let everything grow out and fill in then I will add select pieces as I go. I am planning on one flasher wrasse, a pair of firefish, and maybe one other cool fish and my stocking will be done. Equipment upgrades will be the new Tunze 9004 skimmer placed in the sump area. I am currently running Seachem Fusion 2 part supplements and do 30% water changes weekly.

It is a horrible iPhone picture, I will try to do better.

I have only seen both tanks in person at my local shop and my impression was the JBJ had better overall dimensions for a tank of similar size. Jdaven which size JBJ is that you have?

I don't have experience with either one but would choose the nuvo just because it's 38g. I currently have a 22" 46g cube and there is not one day that goes by that I don't kick myself for not having opted for the 24" 60g cube I originally thought of getting. I say go as big as you can and you won't regret it. Jmo

AJ,

My JBJ is the 30 gallon RL. I have owned a few all in one (except lights) tanks, from Red Sea, Solana, Aquapod...and this one tops them all.

I have heard of the Nuvo having problems and I can honestly say that the JBJ is one of the coolest nano tanks out there. The dimensions look sweet because it is not a solid cube, very thick glass (8mm I believe), and the filtration system is very well thought out with baffles and a mini sump.

I will be adding the new Tunze 9004 to the back to help with my SPS growth and for when I have a heavier bioload.

I really cannot find anything I can complain about the tank, very quiet, cool dimensions, good seamwork, dual overflows/dual return pumps, and large enough to house some cool stuff.

I hope they add some more sizes to the line up ... Jbj even has better lighting to go along with their tanks. A sixty gallon breeder tank would look great with two uni body leds

I've got the 30gal JBJ RL coming (should be here tomorrow) and I'm stuck on finding/figuring out what I'm going to do for a stand, what have you got yours on? Your setup looks really nice, so kudos on that! Also - is the JBJ Uni-Body 54 enough? I have a T5HO fixture I'll be using for now, but I'd like to get some LEDs soon, but can't decide if I should wait for the 108s or not...

Have one of these at the office. Overall, pretty stoked on the tank.

I actually sustained the SPS in my tank with the 54 unibody but I upgraded to an Aqua Illumination SOL. I am pretty stoked with the SOL and the timer unit. Thunderstorms were cool for the first day but were freaking out my fish so I decided to take that out. I did burn a colony of LA Laker zoas with the SOL that were thriving under the Unibody so I imagine I am getting much higher par readings.

Overall I am still happy with the tank, I am waiting patiently on the new Tunze 9004 skimmer to come out so my corals and water will really thrive.

I also restocked my tank with some different fish. Mainly some sweet Snowflakes

The JBJ new solid wood fully assembled stands just hit our LFS. I would get a Vertex Illumina 12" for the tank since they are at a reduced price right now at Bulk Reef Supply. According to Vertex FB page, this discount will only be for June. This light is modular and has controlability built right in. I understand the 108 unibody will be around $500, not upgradeable, and no automation built in, so for $125 more (for the SR260, and $59 more for the SR200), you get much more of a fixture. An AI SOL would be good too...
