So I am in the midst of what I call NTS or new tank syndrome... trying to find that right balance of all things reef. Question I want to ask, and look forward to all answers and opinions. So as of right now I have some hair algae growing on my sand ( logically it leads me to believe my sand is leeching phosphates, but that's for another topic) my question is.... If I was to collect the HA on my sand bed, but it in a small media bag and drop it into my sump/fuge would that allow it to grow only/mostly in that area keeping my DT HA free?

on the right track. but toss it and get some chato and diverse macros. easier to prune. more of it too so it out compete the hair. the increased macros will also help draw all the phosphates out of everything.

how old is the tank and have you ever vacuumed the sand? might not be phosphates might just be poop. esp if the bacteria has not yet developed.

tank is about 3 months... new sand, but transferred the rock from my last tank. I have cheato and dragons breathe in the fuge. I have never vacuumed the sand but the hair algae clumps up nicely so I am able to "rake" it with the tongs I have a pick it out in decent sized balls.

in my experience, hair seems to like organic waste and will clump there, did you rinse good? cyano loves nice clean po soaked rock n sand. but thats me n my tanks.
