1. Can I setup a herbie overflow without using the durso-style curved top on the siphon and/or the overflow? What is the advantage to using that curved top on the pipes? I see that used in 95% of the examples shown on the forums but my overflow box is pretty tight on space (image #4 shows how much room would be left with either 1" or 1.25" durso-style top on the pipes) and I'm wondering if I need them.

2. Will a herbie work with around 700-800 gph with a 1" siphon and a 1" overflow? I know the durso instructions say to overside the pipework meaning I'd use a 1.25" pipe with a 1" bulkhead. Since this a siphon rather than a normal durso, can I get away with 1" pipes all around?

Any help is appreciated.
Bill

Yes I just wish I had asked them to make the overflow larger so I wouldn't have the space issue.

Anyone know about these two questions?

Sorry, I do not have an answer to your question, but I have a couple for you.

Have you considered using street elbows, you should be able to save some space doing things that way...

Who made your overflow?
Did you notch your tank yourself and if so how did you do it?

The tank is from Planet Aquariums who build tanks out of Dallas.. It came with the overflow installed so I'm not sure how they got it in place.

I was under the impression that the street elbows were the same as the ones used on durso standpipes. Are they different?
