overrated zoas & palys

I love my Rhastas! I'm always happy to see them grow tow & hate fragging them because they need to be in a big colony to be impressive. Now the Purple Hornets are tiny! I just don't see what the big deal is about them--pics are way better than the polyp, IMO. Maybe if I stop fragging for trades to folks who like them better & let them grow, I'll be more impressed with them.

Oh & I love almost any PE!

Ive received 2 different morphs of Mohawks. I lost the nice ones and I have some of the not so impressive ones...

Luckily, I should receive some of the nice ones next week :D

speaking about small zoas these are half the size of the purple hornets or even a little less... theyre ok just a few polyps but of course as a colony they are amazing

i recently had to frag this frag since one of the polyps had some white dots on it... sort of looked like eggs but i havent seen any nudis and the stuff didnt really come off the polyp

DDB's?

man, my mohawks were tan for the first couple of weeks, and are now finally starting to color up with the purple and gold flecks. bpe's were tan, as well. i guess the pigments just need time to grow.

ya know, my orange bambams used to be like the tubs blues, then they just flippin kicked into gear and are growing down the frag rack. i don't know if it's just me or not, but it seems like the orange bambams are on the way out. I love mine. They're a cool size, vibrant orange, not green and they're just cool lookin, imo

My Le rainbows are a beautiful color but are very small need a magnifying glass to check them out. My mohawks are great high MH and good water current. I was thinging about rastas but dont want to use the glass again.

Never met a zoa I didn't like, or at least come to like, though I admit it seems I'll be all grey when my Rastas form a carpet (one per month at the rate I'm going). What are DDBs?

I wonder if some of the PH's are just getting fragged way to soon. People must be fragging them as soon as the pop open. I havent noticed that they are any smaller than any other zoa i have. They arent the size of a paly, but none are. Give them some time, they are awesome.

I got mine from marv a few months before they got the name purple hornets, and they have been at the top of list since then. Its one of the few that will make it into my new tank.

I wondered something similar Junior. I started with one, now there are five, but I think or suspect the original polyp is smaller than when I got it. Sorry for drifting off topic, but might occasional cut aways enhance growth of what's left on the plug? I guess only you, Marv, Gary, and a few others can answer that question definitively for the PH.

honestly i think most people are trying to compare them to Palys in terms of size. i really dont see any size difference between the PH's and most other zoas.

Ill have to get a few comparison pics tonight.

I agree with Junior. The PH's are not all that small. I have them setting next to Tubbs Blue zoas and thay are about the same size. With the small colony that I have, I noticed that they like intense light. Maybe this is what makes them larger? But, if people are comparing them to Palys then I can see where you are considering them to be small.
Myself, I like Mohawks, Tubbs and Purple Death. As for over rated, most people will not agree with me but I would have to say PPE's. They are nice but there are so many others with a nicer variations of color in my opinion.
As several people have mentioned, its all about taste and choice.

for me the worst one right now is the nuke green. these are the same polyps people have been walking right by the the stores for YEARS. plain old green ugly pally. most woul dhave have given them a second look someone takes a great pic and now they are 20 bucks per polyp.

i know that applies to alot of polyps but this one has always shocked me.

the second worst one right now is the purple hornets. they are not even close to as nice in person as the popular pics out there. all the color and detail is there but they are small enough that you would never notice it unless in a pic

I have to say that the plain old green ugly paly that I have in my tank is not the same as the Nuke Green. Granted it is bright but it is not a Nuke Green. That being said i think that the Nukes are probably overpriced as, at least for me, they grow like weeds. I'll have to shoot some pictures of the two this evening to show what I mean.

my nuclear greens are pretty bright. and so are my purple deaths.
i wonder why i see a lot of pics with pd's that look brownish.

If they are shaded they will brown out. We did a test in our tank, our colony gets full light so we frgged a couple, put them where they do not get direct light and that started turning brown.

I'm not taking this personally. I've heard this so many times it's not even funny.

I don't want you to take it personally either but I think you are mistaken.

That is really funny because for me the PDs I have in a shaded area get a nice deep purple color. The ones that receive more light are browner. Go figure:smile:

+1

My PDs are in high light and they are brown. They're stuck on a huge rock and I can't move them :(
