My LFS cut a decent sized piece of this Acro for me about two months ago. I took it home and glued it to a piece of reef safe epoxy.

It has refused to encrust, at all! It's not doing any growing either, just slowly devoloping color.

It started as light tan/brown (cut from the tip of a large colony) and has turned a bright metallic green.

I put if lower in the tank, figuring the bright green was too much light. It's getting a lot of flow from my mp10 (runs reef crest mode at 100% in a 17g tank)

My other sps corals are growing, base and all. Since that isn't a true indication of good conditions, here are my tanks parameters:

Salinity : 1.026
Alkalinity : 7.7dkh
Calcium : 500ppm
Magnesium : 1400ppm
PH : 7.7 to 8 ( can't tell the color on salifert)
Nitrates : 4ppm (dose)
Phosphate : 0.04ppm (Hanna)

I don't feed the corals, but do dose nitrates, phosphates, and acropower.

Could the reef safe epoxy be, somehow, stunting growth? It's the only one not growing and the only one that is glued directly to this epoxy.

Mine took a while to take off. It was about month and a half to two months of just leaving it be and it has since blown out a decent encrusted base. I have mine in higher light and blasted with flow. (Center right under a 32" SB Reef Light 100% blue, 25% white) (about 12-14" away from a gyre 150 at 50% max, dual gyre setup) pretty good red and green contrast.

Idk if it's the epoxy though. I think if epoxy were the cause you'd see regression away from the epoxy.
I had a Fox Flame that did the same thing for me. Everything was thriving, but the flame just would not grow. Even after 4-5 months.

The red will come out with more light. I move it higher in the tank.

The LFS had the coral a ways down below the leds. No idea what par it was at.

In my tank, I'd estimate it was getting around 200 par before moving it down.

I guess it just needs more time?

PC Rainbows can take a while to take off. Mine took @3~4 mths. before it started encrusting and changing red. Mine are @ 250 par with moderate flow. Find a spot for it and let it acclimate and it will take off for you.

Had no idea a coral could take so long! At least it's normal, I was afraid I had done something wrong with it.

I'll stick it back up, closer to the light, and leave it alone.

Sounds like a plan! Good Luck and let us know how it went, PC Rainbows are pretty awesome when they become colonies.

Oh yea they are. My LFS has a big one. Can't wait for this to take off!

If you look at the pc rainbow frags I have they are nicely encrusted and this is from fresh frag after two months. I keep mine in 300 par. Maybe try more light?
