New to the hobby and in the research phase at the moment. We were pretty sold on the Reefer 650 peninsula...until we saw a pretty kick butt drop off design and now we're all confused again. We'd like to use the tank as a room divider in our apartment (already got the ok from engineering on weight, etc), hence the peninsula concept so we can 'see through' the tank. We'll be working with a custom tank builder to make sure we're within the specifications that have been approved as we van have up to 136 gallon DT size.

Now, we see the drop off, and love the idea of having more visual room in the tank and more swim space for the fish.

Any pros/cons of each?

Drop offs can be tricky to aquascape and get the flow right, other than that it would be just like the peninsula tank.

Drop offs are cool. They do present a bit more of a challenge with flow with the area that drops off. Also added depth makes reaching that area tougher.

Drop-offs are kind of gimmicky IMO. A deep tank certainly is cool from a fish perspective but it's hard enough to reach the bottom of standard heights. I feel like having a drop off would make me wish the whole tank was deep or shallow.

A larger drop off style tank probably is best suited to be set up peninsula style with the deepest side being the "front" view.
