I quite like these littorinid periwinkle nerite snails received from ipsf and after a month in my tank I've noticed this strange behavior where their shells sort of get stuck to surfaces outside of the water through their mucus and are retracted inside their shells with the snail itself is not touching the glass. I've also noticed when they do this, there tends to be some small pebbles next to them. I'm assuming the small pebbles are their eggs? And possibly this is their process of laying eggs?

When i first saw this, i thought maybe they died and got stuck to the glass, but after pulling them off the surfaces they got stuck to and placing them on rock in the tank, they started moving again right away, which led me to wonder what this behavior is.

I would be very happy if they are breeding and maintaining their population in my tank.

I think the snail pictured is a nerite snail. I’ve read that they’re intertidal and will crawl up above the water line (or right out of your tank if they can). I also ordered from IPSF and my nerites do the same thing you’re seeing. The littorinids look more like a whelk? I haven’t seen any eggs but I have baby snails all over my tank. I started with dry rock too so I know it’s from the IPSF snails!

here’s a baby littorinid on the glass

I guess you are right. I couldn't tell which was which from their website. I don't think I got any of the littorinid snails in my package, but I got a ton of these nerites which I love.

Can you repost a white light photo in focus of the littorinid? I can't really tell what it looks like from that photo.

I'm guessing the specks next to them are eggs, at least I hope.

Here’s one hiding on the rock:

Interesting. That doesn’t look anything like the Nerites I’ve seen or owned, or their eggs, which are much larger like single flat pieces of white rice all over.

This is why i thought they were littorinid snails as ipsf lists them but doesn't show any pictures of them. Also can't find the same looking snails online anywhere.

Here is another picture of the snails that I'm talking about. They have a zebra pattern and are very small but appear to grow shells long and pointy.
