Plumbing help

In this pic the other connection has another piece that fits between the elbow and bulkhead.
Was that together when you got it or did you put it together. Is the bulkhead threaded by any chance?

Very good question about the bulkhead being threaded. I didn't think about that.

Well it is either threaded or the original one has been replaced because nothing is glued if it is a slip fit.

My connection their for my return pump has a thread over there yes

I wonder if it is a mix of metric and inch plumbing.

The bulkhead in the tank now has never been used or it would have something glued into it then.
So you aren't putting it together wrong. It was never together.

I would take the bulkhead out of the tank and take it to the hardware store with the 90. Find parts that go from the bulkhead to the black hose that fit together.

Just don't know if taking the bulkhead out will be easy o will it damage the tank at all?

how about on the metric side? is it exactly 32mm?
that fitting in your hand looks like metric to me, meaning that the bulkhead is standard.

32mm pipe is just slightly smaller then 1"

When lined up properly from the outer part to outer part is 35mm

I would take it out in any case. It must be a replacement since nothing was ever glued into it.
I would make sure the glass was clean and the gaskets in the right place and reinstall it after taking it to the store. You make it hand tight if you are young and strong. If you are old and broken down like me you put a wrench on it and tighten it a quarter turn.

Thanks Mate, if it comes down to it ill do that. hahaha too funny!

I agree with @WVNed something goofy is going on. take both parts in and see what's what.

Alright guys, ill do that...getting a lil nervous now because i havent tested the tank so who knows what else can be wrong :(. Wish me luck and thanks for all your help guys

well, before you go to far, you can fill the tank up to the level of the bulkhead and check for leaks.

lemme do this, how long should i keep it in there? and how do I rinse the tank out after using tap water?

Honestly if the drain was glued they probably cut it to take the tank down. Nothing unusual. They stuck a new bulkhead in the hole and gave you a 90 they probably thought fit.

Nothing sinister.

ahh ok, I did notice some silicone around the bulkhead in the inside, must have been replaced makes sense now. Good detective work

Using a bit of tap water in your tank will hurt nothing. Just drain it back out and don't worry about whats left or rinsing. It's using it over time that does the damage. When you add tap water you get a bit of junk. The water evaporates so you put more tap water in with more junk. If you keep using it you get enough junk that it's a problem. A little bit here and there hurts nothing though.

I fill tanks and let them sit overnight. It's best to do it somewhere even a slow leak will show.
