At this point, I wouldn't worry about the flow in the display tank beyond your circulation. When you make a decision to get corals then cross that bridge. Don't spend more money than you have to at any given point unless you are certain of what type of reef system you plan on keeping. Lord knows this hobby is not cheap.

To help with abbreviations, please see this. It will help to better understand the language of the marine aquarist. I find it helpful all the time.

What exactly is a reactor and its purpose
A reactor is an enclosed chamber where a media is utilized to perform a job in an aqueous or gas medium. Carbon, Bio-pellet, GFO, Chemi-pure, co2 scrubber etc.

Yet if I remove sponges and bio media as you said earlier, then it is an empty canister. I then have to add aqueous or gas medium which you list and I know nothing about, but that would make it a reactor.......correct?

If you remove the sponge and bio media you only place chemical media, Carbon, Bio-pellet, GFO, Chemi-pure, co2 scrubber etc. in it.

What is the purpose of a reactor
Chemical filtration of water in the case of carbon, GFO, ChemiPure, etc. use, Filtration of air in the case of CO2 scrubber media and biological filtration of water with bio beads, coral rubble, ceramic media, etc...

So 132-1056 gph on each side of tank.

I have read bad reviews about those stop working after 3 months to a year.

Dont want to waste money.

The Jeaboa or Jecod pumps are fine. Like any equipment some people have bad luck. MANY people have been running them for years without issue and at the price, you can't go wrong.
