POWERHEADS

I started my 46g with a fluval sea and some no name pump from Amazon. I think I have $50 in both of them. Added a Hygger ($90) with a controller about a year in. I wasn’t sure any of them would last but they’re doing fine. At some point I’ll upgrade, but I’ve had good luck with these. Keep them clean and they do fine.

I should mention that my tank is mostly lps with just a couple sps.

It can be done on the cheap.

I am setting up a new 90 gallon reef tank that will be LPS and SPS. I am so confused about what is a budget friendly--not bargain basement and not Tiffany--that would be a good starting point. How many do I need to start with as I know I will be adding on eventually for dead spots. Does anyone have model numbers that I can look up? I have asked a couple of shops and all they keep telling me is it depends on how much flow I am wanting or needing. I DONT KNOW!! And they want to sell me something that is $300-$400 just starting out. Help, I am so confused!!

I have a 90 gallon too. I have 2 sicce xstreme ac 8000 (2000 gph) on one side while having 2 hydor gen 3 (2000 gph) on the other side . I got them all during on sale. I know hydor has been discontinued but i bet your lfs has some. Hydor seem to be weaker though but wider/gentler flow. What i noticed is the LPS especially my fleshy ones seem to get alot of flow even its just the undercurrent from the powerhead. So you have to play with your powerhead and see how the water moves.
