Probably velvet

Humble you taught me on ID'ing brook over velvet. IME clowns are not as susceptible to velvet as they are to brook so the fact that it was a clown had me leaning brook - I've had clowns die of velvet but usually not first. The brook explanation makes sense and I see it now. My initial gut told me velvet, too. Thanks for teaching me!

Thought I'd follow up. Both clowns are happy, healthy, and back in the reef.
They went through an intial FW dip and then 30-days of CP. Started at 40mg/gal but then bumped up to 50mg/gal after first week because I saw some flashing. Haven't shown any signs of illness since.

What do ya mean you saw some flashing? As in mating or disease?

Flashing or scratching are symptoms of parasites. Usually the fish will dart and rub against the sand, rock, equipment or anything handy in its attempt to rub off the parasite.
