I'm trying to seed my 20 gal QT...put ammonia in...where do the bacteria come from?...thought of taking a used filter pad from my 10...will that help any?...what do you think of Protibio?...I could also take out a little sand from the 10...remove it later if need be...I have absolutely no pieces of lr in the little tank to use...what think thee?

Bacteria comes on it's own as part of the life cycle. As long as there's a place for it to grow. Hence, live rock etc. I wouldn't use Prodibio as a sole source without some type of biofiltration.

I run biodigest on my tank bi-monthly. I love it.

Any kind of bacteria will do the trick if you want to speed it up.
By doing it old school you rely on the bacteria that self produce it self in the system.
IMO seeding it will speed up all the bacteria you'll need in the system as long you'll feed them, a ammonia source is one way to do so.

But what about taking some sand from my DT......or using the filter pad from the DT...in the past, I have not had good results with Dr. Tim's...Is Protibio any better?

Sand or a filter pad will do it too.
A piece of live rock as well.
I never used Prodibio but i hear positive results from hobbyist.
I use Aqua Forest Pro Bio S and pretty happy about it, but as I said any kind of bacteria you can by for marine purposes will do.

Almost anything from an existing tank will boost the bacteria as needed to start the cycle, especially an old filter or some sand.
