I have a fluval Osaka 260L. I have a fluval 406 canister filter that I run chemi pure carbon. 75lbs of live rock and 80lbs of live sand. I am in the process of adding a sump and the next step I need to figure out is what protein skimmer I need and want. I plan on having some coral and a medium bio load.

I am currently looking at the following name brands:
Skimz
Reef octopus
Tunze
AquaC

Are there any other name brands that are worth considering? What specifc model do you think would work best for my setup from the name brands above?

I want to make sure I don't get some cheap brand that won't last. I am not one that gets something cheap and ineffective just to have the piece of equipment.

Help would be greatly appreciated as I am new to the saltwater aquarium hobby.

Are you planning to upgrade to a bigger tank down the road? As for skimmer, I like to with quiet and efficiency. I would avoid Aqua C and RO for period. You could also take a look at Vertex Alpha

Hello, i prefer RLSS R8-I 8 Internal Skimmer with Speed Controlled DC5000 Pump or ATI Powercone 200is or 250is this are quit

Vertex or reef octopus IMO...and consider any future tank upsize with your purchase.

Good luck with it...if you have any opportunity to view skimmers in action, im sure this will influence your purchase...cheers

bubble magnus and reef octopus and cad lights conic skimmer. i have a TIA-1150 2nd Generation Conic skimmer from cad lights on my 55 gallon and i love it. its skimms like crazy and keeps my nitrates very low. i also run a bio reactor from dr tim. with the bio pearls and it has made a huge difference in my tank. im sure there are better skimmers but this one works for me and its cost effective.

I would stay away from AquaC skimmer.
I had great success with Supper Reef Octopus skimmer. they are great
just plan carefully just in case you will upgrade to a bigger tank down the road

I have an ATI PowerCone 200iS and really like it. The soft start, digital air meter, and remote pump control features are really nice.

what do you guys not like about the Aqua-c? I have two of them and I don't see any problems with them. You can make a sound dampener for them and they are a lot quieter after that.

Aquac skimmers are great! I have had the 180 for like 2 years and it does just as much damage as the sroxp2000sss. The only downside is the pump size u have to use. But as far as a downdraft skimmer it's amazing!

And alot of people would be interested in these. Very good skimmer, and cost half of what the big boys do.
Volusion Demo Store

I think AquaC is the worse.
They used to be very good in the early years and that was because there was very few company making in sump protein skimmers at the time.

I really like the skimz products. The build quality, design, and performance are great. The price points are great too The Warner marine versions are nice since you get the Warner marine support.
