Thank you! I think he looks more like a fahaka in this picture. He has only been laying on the aquarium floor, so I didn’t see his stripes. I am hesitant due to his eye color. He has a yellow ring, not a red ring. Possibly because he is in poor condition he doesn’t have his true colors yet. I adopted him from a friend of a friend, and he wasn’t taken care of. I don’t know anything about puffers (have only had goldfish years ago) but I’m about to get a crash course.

Definitely looks pretty thin. Hard to rule out parasites (common in puffers) but if he’s been around this long I’d expect it’s more likely just starving.
Unfortunately, puffers don’t take to prepared foods easily (fahakas can be trained onto pellets though), so be ready to feed lots of frozen or live foods. Most puffers can’t resist appropriately sized shrimp.

He is finally eating blood worms. He wouldn’t eat clams or snails so I’m glad he’s eating. How many times a day should I feed him, considering he is so thin? I read fahaka puffers grow 1” a month for the first year. Is this true? If so, I‘m not equipped to take care of him and will need to find a different home. I don’t know what I’m doing and I don’t want him to be an experiment to see if I can keep him alive.

Most puffers are known to be slow growers…except fahakas. An inch per month sounds right. Expect it to cap at about 12-14 inches.
Bloodworms are good to get food in there, but aren’t very nutritious so it’s important you get him on more foods later on.
Vids are weird on here, usually needs to be linked as a YouTube video.
