Haha im from ontario!!! You guys in lockdown to right now??? Well not lockdown but restaurants and gyms and stuff closed!I’m a east coast Canadian.
These are stable foods served often .
It does help for sure! I used a coldwater bacteria starter...have live rock but gonna get more...also have a cannister filter and substrate on the bottom of his tank!!! Its just a waiting game now and watwe changes!!! The prime keeps him safe while this happens!! Larry is pretty happy in his tank so far! Glad i caught this mistake sooner then later! I work in a seafood restaurant so i did do alot of research but clearly still made rookie moves lol!The majority of beneficial bacteria must have a large surface area to be attached to. In a canister or HOB filter system, that "substrate" would be materials such as foam, ceramic rings and matrix. Most bacteria in a bottle products may not be selective to colder water temperatures. The temperatures that most reefers operate there tanks at are 78F. Also,
If there is not enough surface area for the beneficial bacteria to "hang on to" , the aquarium has to rely on the sand substrate or the glass which is more difficult to establish a large enough population to handle the strength (concentration) of ammonia that is generated from waste food and the inhabitants. Thus, flow and the use of protein skimmer helps overcome the accumulated waste that is in the aquarium. When you see all of those "Larrys" and "Lindas" in Red Lobsters or in grocery stores, we don't see the filtration system it takes to keep them healthy. For most of us, that means having an adequate supply of "live" rock.
I hope my comments help.
Don't beat yourself up. My college degree was in environmental health. I had to study a lot of aquatic microbiology. Being land-locked limited, my understanding of ocean microbiology. It does help for sure! No you didnt at all!!! I appreciate anyone that takes the time to help a rookie out!! Lol!! Im taking a gwology course right now actually amd learning about all those exciting critters we cant see that matter so much!!! Super interesting! Its one of my university electives lolDon't beat yourself up. My college degree was in environmental health. I had to study a lot of aquatic microbiology. I am definitely not being critical. If I came across that way, I apologize.
I also live in Ontario .Haha im from ontario!!! You guys in lockdown to right now??? Well not lockdown but restaurants and gyms and stuff closed!
Ho long does it soak? When purigen is spent.
It can be recharged By soaking in bleach .
Oh well hello neighbor lol!!! Up north in sudbury!!! Patiently waiting to go back to work lol!!!I also live in Ontario .
I have lived here most of my life .
This is the exact stuff im using lolHonestly I don't think purigen is that great. I have used an extremely oversized amount and saw no significant benefit. I think it is great at removing tannins, but those are not really much of a thing in saltwater tanks compared to freshwater tanks. If ammonia is your concern, add a whole bottle of this https://www.brightwellaquatics.com/products/microbacter_cwm_t.php
Yes , it’s best to start at stable low parameters. This happens naturally after a cycle but new tanks aren’t usually stable until the tank matures.Do you think it helps with a tanks overall parameters stating abit more stable?
This is the exact stuff im using lol

Yeah i def think im gonna use purigen for my guy!!! This is all a constant learning process!!! Very challenging sometimes but worth it!!! Just want that darn lobster happy lol! Thanks for yhe help!!!
Thanks ive got a thread for Larry if u wanna check out my baby lol! Hes been through it so glad he can have a good life! Hes spoiled and loved lol!Cool. It is so rare for people to set up a cold water tank that I always like to share links to cold water bacteria as I am not sure how low of a temperature regular cycling bacteria can take.
PS I think its awesome that you have a pet lobster![]()
Looking for more tank stability after i fix my overfeeding rookie mistake! I know it only detoxifies temporarily and doesnt remove it but it would give me peace of mind that larry wouldnt ever be effected by it (larry is my pet lobster)! Im very diligent keeping his tank clean but purigen would be in place in case!! Does that make sense??? Lol im very new to it so dont want my mistakes effecting himWhat is it that you are hoping the Purigen will accomplish?
It is an organic binder, like granular activated carbon, but different.
If exporting organics is your goal for it, that's fine, but do not expect it to bind ammonia or nitrate.
Folks reporting any changes in those are likely seeing a reduction in the breakdown of organics that result in those things.
Beautiful thereOh well hello neighbor lol!!! Up north in sudbury!!! Patiently waiting to go back to work lol!!!
