I purchased my first frag, a purple star polyp, last weekend that looked really nice and put it in my tank. It has new growth but a few days ago some of the big polyps started shriveling and some of them are now unopened and whitish. What should I do? What is wrong with it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

My SG is 1.024, my Alk is about 9-10 dKH, and my Cal is about 440 mg/L. I don't have a Mag test kit.

What are your Nitrate and Phosphate readings?

I have gree star polyps that occasionlly do the same thing for a couple days and then are just fine. No real reason for it that I've found so far.

They are at the bottom of the tank, I have a 75 gallon with a 6 light tek light on it. It has 3 Blue +, 1 blue aquaspecial, 1 purple, and a daylight bulb in it. It gets enough flow that it isn't plastered down but still moves. Nitrates 0 and phosphate level is 0.

These are the pictures of my purple star polyps. You can see the areas where the polyps stopped coming out and then they turned white. There are more and more of those spots and less star polyps coming out.

^ agree, get a bottle of coral RX which it pretty darn cheap and give it a good dip and put it back. Dip every coral you get no matter where it is from, it is a great habit to get into!
