And also, when doing freshwater dips, EVERYONE states how important it is to match temperature and PH. You will find absolutely no one, who will do a freshwater dip in 60 degree water.

I personally think most of the advice in this thread is unfortunate. A highly effective and proven alternative treatment exists. You can treat in tank, all your fish at once - puffer included. No poisons,

I don't see the added benefit of FW dipping a sick fish in 60 degree water. That will likely just send the fish into thermal shock. A 5 min FW dip (at the same temperature the fish is coming from) relieves surface parasites and parasites/worms inside the gills. It is not a permanent fix by any means, but it can be used to identify a fish with flukes (they turn white and fall out of the fish once exposed to freshwater) and can also buy you some time when dealing with a serious external parasite such as velvet.

Now my 2 cents on the diatom filter. It is intriguing, yes. But it needs to be tested and documented on several specimens with active parasites (ich, velvet, etc.) I plan to do that in the near future (life gets in the way.

) Also, the diatom filter @robert linked via Amazon is not designed for long-term use in saltwater. It's inner parts will likely corrode without frequent cleanings.

60 degree freshwater dip? I live in savannah,ga and i do ALOT of fishing for 22 years. I havent seen any fish in saltwater go to freshwater. I have seen sharks go to brackish water, but not fresh. Doesnt mean they dont, but we do have a big shark problem.

The bull shark is diadromous and can live in salt or freshwater (as long as it's warm). I agree with Humblefish that dipping a sick reef fish in cold freshwater is inadvisable.

Just read the citations - evaluate the sources for yourself. Yes it has been proven - just not by humblefish - he has never tried it.

PaulB - a regular here has - ask him. I have, ask me. The guy who did the most early researh into marine velvet and ich says it works - I give you the refrences...

There is no reason to lose your fish.

Its not the perfect filter - but it will do the job.

They only fish that have been found in the Mississippi is bull sharks and they are brackish! The amount of time it would take to turn a marine fish to brackish to fresh if even possible would take a while and with the temps so different throughout the miss I highly doubt they would even survive a 10 degree temperature change.

I changed everything on my qt and now al my levels are fine! Both my triggers have no visible ich on them currently. Should i still fresh water dip them? I also have everything at the same temp.

It would probably be sufficient to only FW dip one of them to check for flukes. I highly doubt you are dealing with velvet here, and a FW dip has minimal impact on ich. Just slowly raise the copper in QT and begin a 30 day countdown.

Just to keep all tht help with thier input ...

First off i didnt knw it was going to be so hard to get these fish out lol. My green chromis was the hardest ro catch. My brother had to do it bcuz i was trying to be way to gentle when trying to catch them.

Everyone is finaly in the qt. i did a fw did on 3 of my fish only because they always had it the worse when it did come. My black damsel, tomato clown and niger trigger.

I was soo nervous because my triiger looked like he wasnt breathing right after i put him in and i freaked out n left him in for only 1 minutes but it was so weird cuz my tomato clown was swimming around like the fresh water didnt phase him at all -_-.

I feel so much better that they are not in my DT. Everyone is swimming around like usual besides the wrasse which is always hiding anyway. I will start copper tm today.

Im going to throw away all my medications and antibiotics. Im also gonna shut down my qt and just do 60 degree freshwater dips...
