Got a few of the BRS dosers for dosing cal/alk/mag...but had a few questions.

I will be running the tubing up 2 ft to get over a door opening, and then down about 6 ft into the sump. Should I have any concerns with a peristaltic pump self-siphoning after it shuts off? If so, any recommended fail-safe solutions to prevent that from happening?

Also is clear tubing ok or should I use black tubing?

No. I have two of the same myself. If you look at it and watch how it works you’ll see that either one or both o those rollers will cinch off the tubing. One thing that you’ll need to watch out for is the additive clogging the end with dried residue/calcification. Tubing is cheap. I’m going to invest 60$ in a 4 channel Jaebo when I have the extra cash.

I have both the jebao and the brs. The jebao is kind of a pita to program, but easier than doing the calculations for the brs on the Apex. I messed up the dosing programming about 4 times over 2 years, and I'll be using the jebao for the new tank despite the goofy interface. Don't underestimate the errors of complicated programming, it's nice to have the controllability from the Apex, but it's not to be overstated that one wrong digit on your smart phone can overdose, setting you back months of stability.

Haha! I thought I was the only one to use the acronym, PITA. There’s a calculator online that helps you program your apex for dosing with the BRS pump, I can send the link but you can find by search. The reason I’m getting a Jaebo is mainly the cost. I’ll be using it to feed various plankton cultures I keep for breeding. It’s perfect for a stand alone. I just didn’t know anyone that could vouch for it’s performance. Is it a good piece of equipment, reliable?

I use the reeftronics calculator, it's not the calculation but the entry into the Apex which is flawed. One missed character or auto correct and you can go from intermittent to always on. It's something people don't consider, but adjusting complex programming should be considered a risk.

The jebao is fine, but I haven't had it long enough and my temporary set up doesn't require as much precision, so I can't vouch for its longevity. I will be using it for the big tank when it gets going as I am now comfortable with the programming, and it's less error prone than Apex entries.
