I was informed by an employee at my lfs that I could add a second radiant wrasse to my tank. With in minutes they were fighting, and before lights out the new wrasse has disappeared. It's only been a day since I saw it, I'm willing to wait 2 more days before I start moving the sand to find it.

Should my lfs have told me it was okay to add a second fish? Should I try and catch the original one to see if the new one will come back out?

What size tank do you have them in?

I keep seeing this and it bothers the heck out of me....NEVER go digging in the sand for a fish. You will have a significant chance of injuring it or spooking it to where it will fly around the tank and into something. This is not a good idea.

Think about it this way. You just moved into a new neighborhood and the kid down the road just punched you in the eye. You might take a little bit of time to come out of your house. Give it some time.

Depending on tank size, you sure might have to relocate one. Generally pairs of wrasses don't work.

I wouldn't dig through the sand. If you can use a trap for one of them, that might be your best option.

I have a pair but they were added at the same time as juvies. I do not expect it to work long term and will probably have to remove one at some point. Pairs do not generally work long term.

I would try and remove the new one to rehome or return.

You are never supposed to go digging for them.

I don't have a fish trap. So catching one without disturbing the sand is not possible right now. I just want to keep the other one alive, don't want to have a dead fish in the sand and have a high ammonia spike. That's what I'm more concerned about is keeping the new one alive. I could move it to a smaller tank until I can get to my lfs.

Hopefully you have a tight fitting top. I have lost more very very expensive wrasses than I care to recall due to jumping. Check first behind the tank for fish jerky.
