From your photos it's looks like a very nice, but fairly typical coloration. Doesn't seem to me that the website photos are very accurate, are they?

im satisfied and happy...our LFS has a wellso and color is just red and green and its $200...
and my new one i like the colors on it...very girly:xd:

Nice looking coral. It would appear this is the latest fad to hit the hobby and that prices have been skyrocketing in recent months. Also, am I alone in being bothered by the industry/hobby still insisting on using an invalid scientific name such as Wellsophyllia?

I agree, it's a trachyphyllia.

The fact that you're happy with it is all that counts

Why would it matter???

generally speaking in the trade, welsos have flat bottoms and trachs have pointed bottoms. i did a quick google search and found a quote from steven pro stating that "welsophyllia" is no longer a valid name. i'd be curious to learn more about this!

Wellsophyllia is no longer a valid name and some people argue the same thing for the species name radiata.

When Trachyphyllia remains attached to reef it becomes more meandroid and slightly larger, and that is what is being sold as Wellsophyllia within the hobby.

Trach or wellso... either way it's a beautiful coral. We need some updated pics under the actinics once it opens up fully. Hopefully you get some of the coloration like in the pic on the website!! That's amazing!
