I’ve made one before and it actually worked really well very cheap looking though with the cheap lights. This time using LED’s could be a lot nicer looking. Right now I just got the tank running and I’m using wet/dry system with bio balls in sump. I know I want a skimmer but I don’t have $250-400 on getting a skimmer. Is an algae scrubber better than bio ball system?

wet/dry systems went out of popularity many years ago. Bioballs tend to become a nitrate factory if not cleaned on a regular basis.

An ATS and a skimmer do 2 different things, and in my opinion should be used in conjunction with each other.

EDIT:
Sorry I read the OP wrong. An ATS would be better then a wet/dry system for the main reason stated above and why practically no one uses bioballs anymore.

Really??? I didn’t know that about bio balls at all but I never had the opportunity to get corals. And that is my main mission this go around is coral
